Capt. Dave Marciano’s Tails Up Tuna Steak

(It’s Wicked Good!)

Serves 4

Serving size: 8 oz

Description: This is Capt. Dave’s most preferred method of eating a Blue Fin Tuna Steak. It is a very simple recipe that doesn’t overpower the tuna flavor. It can be cooked rare through well done, as you prefer. There is no wrong way to eat it!

Ingredients:

  • Tuna Steaks 2 pounds
  • Soy Sauce 1 cup
  • Powdered Wasabi To taste
  • Sesame Seeds ½ cup or more to taste
  • Olive Oil 3 Tbsp
  • Optional:
  • Chopped Garlic 1 tsp or more to taste

Cooking Instructions:

Time: 35 minutes cooking, 10 minutes prep

  1. Mix the powdered Wasabi in the Soy Sauce to your liking of hot. Some folks like a big kick from wasabi and some less.
  2. Marinate for 30 minutes. Do NOT marinate overnight – this is not like steak - you won’t be able to taste the tuna.
  3. Sprinkle liberally with Sesame Seeds.
  4. Heat the olive oil and chopped garlic if you desire, in a large fry pan on medium high heat.
  5. When the oil is hot, place the tuna steaks in the pan and sear for about 2 minutes per side for a light cook, longer per side for more thorough cooking, less for a lighter cook.
  6. You can also grill the steaks on a grill, heated to medium high, for same time frame.

Notes per Capt. Dave Marciano:

Now tuna is like steak. That is why they are called tuna steaks. Some folks like it cooked throughout with the same even color and some like it rare or medium rare. So depending on how you like it you will have little to no color, or a lot of color in the center. Either way it is a fine way to eat tuna steaks! It is a preference.
